The Jews, the Call from Barcelona

In medieval Barcelona we find people from all over the world: Occitan, Spanish, French, English, Italian, etc. Most are Christians, but there is an important Jewish community that lives in the “Call”.

Their relationships used to be more towards coexistence than to the conflict, however, there were no specific outbreaks of anti-Semitism, which led to the “Disputa de Barcelona” in 1263, a controversy that welcomed theologians of the two Relations in an open debate about the relative merits to their respective doctrines.

In this itinerary we will find some houses of the time, remains of the “Castell Nou”, a Hebrew inscription, the “Call Menor” and the “Call Major”.
